The ROI of systems engineering: Some quantitative results for software-intensive systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents quantitative results on the return on investment of systems engineering (SE-ROI) from an analysis of the 161 software projects in the COCOMO II database. The analysis shows that, after normalizing for the effects of other cost drivers, the cost difference between projects doing a minimal job of software systems engineering—as measured by the thoroughness of its architecture definition and risk resolution—and projects doing a very thorough job was 18% for small projects and 92% for very large software projects as measured in lines of code. The paper also presents applications of these results to project experience in determining “how much up front systems engineering is enough” for baseline versions of smaller and larger software projects, for both ROI-driven internal projects and schedule-driven outsourced systems of systems projects. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Proposing an Efficient Software-based Method to Enhance Reliability of Computer Systems against Soft Errors
In recent years, along with rapid developments in technology, computer systems haveincreasingly become more integrated and more modular. Indeed, the reliability and efficiency ofcomputer systems are of high significance. Hence, the quantitative evaluation of the optimizationof reliability indexes in computer systems is considered to be a crucial issue. Reliabilityenhancement of computer systems...
متن کاملContext-Aware Recommender Systems: A Review of the Structure Research
Recommender systems are a branch of retrieval systems and information matching, which through identifying the interests and requires of the user, help the users achieve the desired information or service through a massive selection of choices. In recent years, the recommender systems apply describing information in the terms of the user, such as location, time, and task, in order to produce re...
متن کاملOPTIMUM LAYOUT OF NONLINEAR FLUID VISCOUS DAMPER FOR IMPROVEMENT THE RESPONSES OF TALL BUILDINGS
The utilization of passive energy dissipation systems has been created a revolution in the structural engineering industry due to their advantages. Fluid Viscous Damper (FVD) is one of these control systems. It has been used in many different industries, such as the army, aerospace, bridge, and building structures. One of the essential questions about this system is how it can combine with the ...
متن کاملImpact of region of interest size and location in Gafchromic film dosimetry
Introduction: Accurate film dosimetry requires careful consideration of sources of uncertainty. Some of the sources of uncertainty are dependent on the size and location of region of interest (ROI), especially in small fields. Avoiding the penumbra is often a reason for using a small ROI. In contrast, choosing very small ROIs may increase uncertainty due to the reduction of th...
متن کاملDevelopment and Analysis of a Novel Multi-Mode MPPT Technique with Fast and Efficient Performance for PMSG-Based Wind Energy Conversion Systems
Wind energy is one of the most promising renewable energy resources. Due to instantaneous variations of the wind speed, an appropriate Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) method is necessary for maximizing the captured energy from the wind at different speeds. The most commonly used MPPT algorithms are Tip Speed Ratio (TSR), Power Signal Feedback (PSF), Optimal Torque Control (OTC) and Hill Cli...
